Red River Station

Red River Station

Jeremy Bell

Red River Station is a bright and upbeat work for Wind Ensemble emulating the Americana style of Aaron Copland and old country Western movies. Synthesizing elements from Copland’s ballet Rodeo (particularly Buckaroo Holiday and Hoedown) and multiple movie soundtracks, this challenging work uses syncopation and melodic dovetailing through the ensemble to bring out different timbres and capture the focus of the listener as the melody gets transferred between different instruments.

To get that Wild West sound, Red River Station uses the pentatonic scale for a lot of the melodic content and bVII. The vibrant orchestration and exciting nature of this work make it an excellent fit for any concert.

Red River Station is available at J.W. Pepper and is published by C.L. Barnhouse.
