I wanted to create a unique setting of Veni, Santce Spiritus that blends a Chant, sung by a soloist and often accompanied by a “drone,” and a more standard chorale setting with slight polyphony. This setting contains two soloists split off from the rest of the ensemble. One soloist performs the CHANT from the front of the stage while the soloist performing the ECHO is stationed somewhere near the back of the performance venue. The rest of the ensemble makes up the CHOIR split evenly among 2-4 notes, most of which are open 5th chords, to create a type of droning, hollow sound.
